Hastelloy mesh for demanding chemical service
Hastelloy woven wire mesh combines a specified nickel-alloy grade with an opening and wire size selected for the process. HuiRui offers custom mesh specifications for screens, filter supports and technical components.
The grade matters as much as the mesh count. C-22 and C-276 are considered for a range of corrosive chemical environments, B-series alloys focus on reducing-acid service, and alloy X is selected primarily for heat and oxidation resistance. These grades should not be treated as interchangeable.
- Material requests: C-22, C-276, X and specified B-series grades.
- Custom dimensions: request mesh count, wire diameter, opening, width and length to suit your design.
- Starting information: a drawing, existing specification or short process description.
Choose a Hastelloy grade
This is general material-selection guidance, not a chemical certificate or a guarantee for your process. Confirm the exact grade and wire condition before ordering.
| Grade | Why it may be considered | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| C-22 · UNS N06022 | Nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy considered for mixed corrosive conditions, including oxidizing media and chloride exposure. | Full chemical mixture, concentration and temperature, including impurities. |
| C-276 · UNS N10276 | Nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy used in chemical processing where resistance to localized corrosion is important. | Process chemistry, temperature, cleaning cycles and any welded or formed features. |
| B-series · exact grade required | Nickel-molybdenum grades considered for reducing-acid service. B-3 has improved structural stability compared with earlier B-type alloys. | Confirm the exact B-series specification and any oxidizing contaminants. B, B-2 and B-3 are not interchangeable labels. |
| X · UNS N06002 | Nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum alloy considered for oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength. | Atmosphere, exposure time, thermal cycling and mechanical loading; it is not a direct substitute for a corrosion-focused C-grade. |
Tell us which grade your drawing requires. If it is not specified, share the operating conditions so the quotation can start from a clear material requirement.
Custom mesh specification guide

| Hastelloy C-22 | 30 | 0.19 | 0.6567 |
| Hastelloy C-22 | 40 | 0.23 | 0.405 |
| Hastelloy B | 45 | 0.25 | 0.3144 |
| Hastelloy C-276 | 60 | 0.15 | 0.2733 |
| Hastelloy C-22 | 100 | 0.1 | 0.154 |
| Hastelloy C-276 | 100 | 0.1 | 0.154 |
Select the alloy grade as well as the mesh geometry; each combination is reviewed for the requested grade. Final alloy grade, weave, tolerances and dimensions are confirmed with your quotation.
Calculated nominal opening = 25.4 ÷ mesh count − wire diameter (mm), rounded to 0.0001 mm where needed. These are nominal design calculations, not inspection results, manufacturing tolerances or certified filtration ratings.
This guide uses regular square-opening woven-mesh geometry. Dutch-weave, unequal warp/weft counts and expanded-metal designs require separate specifications.
For a B-series request, state the exact alloy specification; the B example is not an automatic substitute for B-2 or B-3.
Choose the weave for your hastelloy mesh
- Plain square weave: an alternating over-and-under pattern with visible openings. Specify mesh count together with wire diameter or target opening.
- Twill square weave: a staggered pattern that produces diagonal lines. It can accommodate different wire-to-opening combinations from plain weave; the final structure is selected with the specification.
- Dutch weave: closely packed wires create a filtration path rather than the visible square openings shown in the guide. Include warp/weft counts, wire sizes or the filtration target for a separate assessment.
Custom weave requests are welcome. Suitability depends on the alloy grade, wire condition and dimensions; not every combination is suitable for every grade.
Specify your custom hastelloy mesh
Start with mesh or opening, finished size and quantity if known. A drawing, reference sample description or short application note is enough to begin.
| Custom requirement | Details to include |
|---|---|
| Alloy grade and condition | Give the exact grade or UNS designation. Include the required wire condition or heat treatment if specified by your design. |
| Mesh, wire and opening | Choose a guide row or request another combination. For square weave, state mesh count and wire diameter, or your target opening. |
| Filtration structure | For Dutch weave, include warp/weft details or your filtration target and process fluid. A calculated square opening is not a filtration rating. |
| Finished dimensions | Width × length, piece or roll format, quantity and any cut-edge or component drawing requirements. |
| Service conditions | Chemical mixture, concentration, temperature, cleaning cycles and any mechanical loading or pressure differential. |
| Inspection and documents | Mention critical tolerances, inspection requirements and material documents needed. The quotation will confirm what can be supplied. |
You do not need every technical detail before contacting us. Final grade, weave, dimensions, tolerances and order requirements are confirmed with your quotation.
Applications and service details
Potential mesh uses include chemical-process screens, filter-support layers, separation components and laboratory assemblies. For alloy X, heat-exposed screens and supports may be considered after reviewing the atmosphere and load.
- Liquid filtration and separation: provide the liquid composition, solids and intended opening or filtration target.
- Process support mesh: include the supported layer, differential pressure and attachment details if known.
- Corrosion-focused research: share test media, exposure temperature and sample dimensions.
- Heat-exposed assemblies: identify the gas atmosphere, continuous or cyclic operation and any load on the mesh.
No grade is resistant to every chemical at every concentration and temperature. Thin mesh wires and finished assemblies need assessment for the actual service conditions.

Frequently asked questions
Are Hastelloy C-22 and C-276 interchangeable?
No. They are distinct grades with different compositions and corrosion behavior. Use the grade specified by your design, or compare them against the complete chemical mixture, concentration and temperature before selecting.
What information is needed for a Hastelloy B mesh request?
Identify the exact B-series grade or UNS designation on your drawing. Do not substitute B, B-2 and B-3 without material review. Include acid composition, temperature and known oxidizing contaminants.
Does a higher mesh count always mean finer filtration?
Not by itself. Wire diameter also determines a square-weave opening. Dutch weave has a different filtration structure, so provide the required filtration characteristics rather than relying on mesh count alone.
Can I request a specification that is not in the table?
Yes. Send the required grade, mesh or opening, dimensions and quantity, or a drawing. We will confirm the workable wire and weave combination with the quotation.
Can I request material and inspection documents?
Yes. Tell us which documents and acceptance criteria your project requires before ordering. Availability and scope must be confirmed for the quoted material and order.
