Titanium foam is a porous material with unique properties and applications. It is produced by converting titanium alloys or pure titanium into a highly porous structure. Here’s a brief introduction to titanium foam:

 

Porous structure: Titanium foam is characterized by its porous structure. It is achieved by controlling the release of gas or foaming agents during the material’s fabrication process. This high porosity provides excellent quality and surface reactivity.

 

Lightweight: Due to its porous structure, titanium foam is exceptionally lightweight. It has lower density compared to titanium alloys or pure titanium materials of the same volume. This lightweight feature makes titanium foam valuable in applications that require weight reduction, such as aerospace, automotive, and sporting equipment industries.

 

Superior strength and stiffness: Despite being lightweight, titanium foam exhibits remarkable strength and stiffness. The porous structure allows it to effectively absorb and distribute stress, enhancing its compressive and flexural strength. This advantage positions titanium foam well for lightweight and high-strength applications.

 

Energy absorption: Titanium foam demonstrates excellent energy absorption capabilities. The porous structure enables it to undergo plastic deformation and absorb impact energy, making it suitable for applications in collision protection, protective gear, and safety engineering.

 

Good thermal and electrical conductivity: Titanium foam possesses good thermal and electrical conductivity.
